Snoop Dogged determination helped Stacey find her voice

AS a youngster, Stacey Jackson dreamed of being Heart singer Nancy Wilson or the girlfriend of Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon.

And, while she hasn’t quite achieved those levels of fame, Canadian Stacey has built a successful career in music.

It includes chart-topping dance hits in the UK and America, including a 2011 collaboration with iconic rapper Snoop Dogg on her track Live It Up.

The song was also recently re-released as Live It Up: Rebooted, featuring Snoop Dogg as part of the comedy film Reboot Camp — in which Stacey also has a cameo.

“It was a huge honour to have been a part of Reboot Camp,” she enthused. “I had such a blast on set with all the cast and my dancers performing the record.

“Because of its 10th anniversary and the track being featured in the movie, we remastered and remixed it with a current, fresh 2021 vibe.”

It would seem, on first inspection, that a nice Jewish girl from Montreal would have little in common with a legendary gangsta rap.

Yet that could not be further from the truth.

“Live It Up required a rap artist, so I thought we could get someone like Tinie Tempah,” London-based Stacey explained.

“But my manager had done some work with Snoop Dogg and Wu-Tang Clan.

“When he told me I would be recording with Snoop in Boston, I couldn’t believe it — I thought he had been smoking something!”
