The year was 1978 and the Salfordian was in the Jewish state for the first time on her own.

It was a country which would become known as the high-tech “start-up nation”, and where the financial disparity between rich and poor became glaringly evident.

But, for a 14-year-old Isabel, Israel was the place she wanted to be.

And, in 1990, she emigrated there, becoming a senior editor for Middle East and Palestinian affairs at The Jerusalem Report.
