AT the age of 78, artist and retired barrister David Goldberg has just published his first book, except, that is, for a legal textbook.
The Dubliner, who has written Gerald & Sheila Goldberg of Cork — A Son’s Perspective about his parents, who were the first and only Jewish Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cork, said: “I never thought about writing a book about my parents. It was a complete accident.”
The accident happened in the summer of 2020 when David played what he called a “minor” part in a Zoom video about Jewish Cork.
He recalled: “While my contributions were minor, the recollections this triggered of my father Gerald and my mother Sheila were overwhelming. I soon found myself surrounded by a trunk full of memories spread all over the floor of my living room.”
