THERE was a happy coincidence at Marc Smith's barmitzvah at the weekend. For it fell on the same day as ShabbatUK.

And the American acapella group Shir Soul sang musical excerpts at the Beth Hamidrash Hagadol Synagogue, in Leeds.

Marc, a pupil at Allerton High School, Leeds, is the son of Nicky and Dan Smith.

He loves dancing, football, drama, singing, playing on the Xbox and Lego.

Marc is also involved in LJOY, scouts, Bnei Akiva and Maccabi.

He has also been involved with the Next Generation Arts group since the age of eight.

Marc gave a donation from his barmitzvah money to the WIZO Bar/Bat Mitzvah campaign.

Also joining in the celebrations were sister Yasmin, grandparents Judy and Jon GordOn, of Leeds, and Elaine and Eric Smith, of Manchester, as well as guests from Hungary, France and Israel.

The celebrations continued with a Lego-themed party on Sunday.
