‘Rasta’ Eddie used his Witz to launch a music career

WHEN Eddie Witz made a pilgrimage to the mausoleum of Jamaican reggae icon Bob Marley, he was taken aback.

For inscribed on the tombstone were four Magen Davids — a reference, perhaps, to the links between Rastafarianism, which Marley practised, and Zionism.

The Rastafarians’ idea of Zion is taken from the Jewish concept of the Promised Land to which Moses was leading them.

And its allegiance is to King Solomon, who is believed to have produced a child — Menelik I — with the Queen of Sheba.

Eddie is further solidifying the links between Jamaica and Judaism.
