Grammar school transformational for life prospects

IT is apparent that what Professor Steve Rothberg went through more than 16 years ago still resonates with him.

The signs are there - his email signature encourages people to save a live by joining the Anthony Nolan Register and becoming a stem cell donor.

March 2009 saw Steve — who is, today, Manchester Metropolitan University’s provost and deputy vice-chancellor — diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Chemotherapy did not do the trick and he was told that he needed a stem cell transplant.
