No trace of Levi

JAN ASCOLI, of Derbyshire, is looking for information on her great-great grandfather Levi (Louis) Himmelblau.

Cobbler Levi, who was born around 1807, moved to Manchester from Krakow in the mid-1850s.

His daughter Minnie married Joseph Mandleberg in Manchester in 1857.

Levi and his wife Judith (Yetta/Gettie/Julia) appear in the 1861 and 1871 censuses lodging at 24 Johnson St.

In 1872, Gettie was admitted to the Prestwich Asylum from the Manchester Workhouse, Crumpsall.

And three years later, she was admitted to the Parkside Asylum, Macclesfield, where she died on April 22, 1876. But Jan can find no further trace of Levi.
