MARRIED at Sha'are Hayim Synagogue, Didsbury, were Rachel Phillips and Adam Shafar.

Rachel is the daughter of Lucille and Leon Phillips, of Prestwich, and Adam is the son of Lorraine and Brian Shafar, of Prestwich.

Rachel and Adam have been together since meeting at a party when they both sixth-formers at school.

After graduating from university, they spent a year in Japan teaching English, following which they returned to Manchester to continue their studies.

Bridesmaids were Rachel's two sisters, Deborah and Hannah Phillips, and Adam's nieces, Poppy Haffner and Beatrice Shafar. Best man was Adam's brother Ben Shafar.

Also joining in the celebrations were the bride's grandparents Valerie and Harold Saffer, of Leeds, and the groom's grandmother Sonia Shafar, of Prestwich.

Sister Deborah travelled from Israel for the simcha with fiancé Aviel Ben Ami. Rachel's best friends Abigail Stern and Dalya Guttman also came from Israel, while her aunt Naomi Davies flew in from New York.

After a honeymoon in Scotland, the couple have settled in Prestwich.
