Couple on fast track to love thanks to JNF KKL

NEWLYWEDS Darren and Susan Haniford have JNF KKL Scotland to thank for bringing them together.

Darren and Susan (nee Leckerman), who married at Giffnock and Newlands Synagogue, met at a JNF KKL Scotland after-the-fast dance eight years ago.

They chose to have the chuppa and celebrations at Giffnock as both sets of parents married there.

Susan, a healthcare scientist at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, is the daughter of Alan and Wendy Leckerman, while Darren, a primary school teacher in Troon, Ayrshire, is the son of Laurence and Esmee Haniford.

Among those present were Susan's brother Daniel and great-grandfather Sydney Samuels, Darren's brother Simon, who was best man, and grandparents Harold and Irene Baker and Yvonne Haniford.

The couple honeymooned in Mauritius and have settled in Newton Mearns.

LONDON girl Lois Mail celebrated her batmitzvah in Glasgow.

The celebration was held at Garnethill Synagogue because of the strong family connection between Lois, daughter of Michael and Keren Mail, and Scotland's oldest surviving shul.

Lois is named after her great-grandfather Louis Blint MBE, a member of Garnethill, and her grandparents Zelda and Ronnie Mail married there in 1954. Her great-great-grandparents also married in the shul in 1885.

Among those present from London and beyond were Lois's grandparents Frances and Lionel Banks, siblings Zack and Mia and family from America.

Lois, who lives in Hendon, enjoys Guides, tennis and baking.

She studied for her batmitzvah with Project Seed as part of a mother and daughter programme.

The family are members of Brondesbury Park Synagogue.
