WELSH karate kid Samuel Myerson was barmitzvah at the United Hebrew Congregation on Shabbat.
Samuel, who has a black belt in the martial art, was born in Cardiff and lived there for 10 years before moving with his family to Leeds in 2004.
His country of birth was the theme of his simcha.
The son of Debbie and Nick Myerson, of Alwoodley, Samuel attends the Grammar School at Leeds.
A talented musician, Samuel plays cello and sings in the school chamber choir. He also enjoys drama and is a keen scout.
Grandparents Linda and Jeff Caplan and Shirley and Arthur Myerson were present, along with guests from Israel.
Sam and his younger brother, Ben, 10, who also attends the Grammar School, are both stalwart members of Bnei Akiva in Leeds.

Gerrard Ellis celebrated his barmitzvah at Etz Chaim Synagogue
on Shabbat.
The only son of Belinda and Michael Ellis, of Shadwell, Gerrard is a pupil at the Grammar School at Leeds.
Among his hobbies are computing, music and playing the guitar.
Gerrard also place rugby union for Leos and his school.
Grandparents Myer and Anita Rosenthall together with Sylvia Ellis attended the simcha along with guests from Israel, London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Gerrard has two sisters, Chloe, 8, and Elana, 6, who both attend Brodetsky Primary School.
