If anyone was likely to spend 14 months, while turning 70, travelling the Americas on her own, couch-surfing, staying in hostels, taking often dangerous night buses in South America, dancing, singing and playing music with the natives and revelling in it, it was Fiona.

Apart from music and dance, she has a great interest in the indigenous people of South America, which formed an important part of her journey.

She also devoted time to exploring the Jewish and Yiddish side of the Americas.
