AT the bottom of my garden stands a small building that before and during the 1948 War of Independence served as one of seven guard posts around Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek.
Ascending the metal external stairway to the second floor of the building that sits perched on a wide, flat elevated piece of ground, one can see in the distance the silhouette of a concrete watch tower, positioned atop one of the hills of the extensive Ramot Menashe mountain range, overlooking the kibbutz and wide expanse of the Jezreel Valley.
Such basic concrete watch and similar-looking water towers can be found in kibbutzim and other agricultural communities throughout Israel.
