This kibbutz is a desert gem

IN the early 1950s, Israelis serving in the IDF's Nahal division created a military outpost at Ein Gedi on the west coast of the Judean Desert. It ran along the 1949 Armistice Line — known as the Green Line — that until 1967 was a more than active border with neighbouring Jordan.

Created in the harshest of natural and unnatural conditions, the military outpost developed over the years to become the astounding gem in the desert community of Kibbutz Ein Gedi.

There the breathtaking lushness of the grounds knocks visitors sideways as they stroll the nurtured pathways brimming with over 900 species of luscious plant life from five continents.
