Kibbutz has become a haven for cats after horrors of October 7

Renan Gomeh

RENANA Gomeh, of Kibbutz Nir Oz, stands on a potholed garden path opposite a blackened, derelict building that, until October 7, was home to her and her sons, then-12-year-old Yagil and Or, 16.

Renana has remained in Nir Oz, just two and a half kilometres from Gaza, although the family, and many more of the survivors from the Nir Oz community, are now housed in temporary accommodation in the Negev town of Kiryat Gat.
