Stunning Merav view includes a memorial to tragic teenager

THE heavy mid-morning mist spreading a chilly dampness that had surrounded the 1982 settled religious community of Merav sitting atop the Gilboa mountain range’s Mount Avinadav, gradually lifted and the accompanying slight drizzle, thankfully, petered out.

The villages below are Palestinian (post-Oslo designated Palestinian Authority Area A) and situated immediately on the other side of the security fence and patrol road that snakes its way across the Gilboa Mountain, drops down toward the Jordan Valley and the Israeli town of Beit Shean on one side, while on the other, into the eastern portion of the Jezreel Valley and Palestinian villages stretched all the way to the Palestinian city of Jenin.
